PowerOut is an independent project that collects and brings together electricity outage information from electricity distribution network operators across the UK.
Instead of having to visit different network operator websites to find information about a power cut, PowerOut provides a single place to view current outages, planned work and outage information.

🔌 Where does the data come from?
PowerOut collects information from the electricity distribution network operators responsible for maintaining the electricity network in different parts of the UK.

PowerOut doesn't just look at what's happening right now. Outage information is collected regularly and historical information is retained.
This allows PowerOut to build a picture of electricity outages over time, including outage frequency, duration, affected customers and differences between network areas.
🔄 How often is the data updated?
PowerOut regularly checks the available network operator data and updates the website as new information becomes available.
The homepage includes a live collection status so you can see when PowerOut last successfully collected data.

Electricity network operators provide useful information about power cuts, but the information is spread across different websites and systems.
PowerOut was created to make that information easier to find, easier to understand and easier to explore.
The longer the project runs, the more useful the historical dataset becomes. Over time, PowerOut aims to provide a valuable independent view of electricity outages across the UK.
